2. Taste Alicante’s soul through its local products

In 2025, Alicante was crowned Spain’s Gastronomic Capital. On our local food tour, you’ll taste what makes its cuisine unique: Mediterranean tapas, fresh seafood, and the famous red shrimp — all paired with regional wines like Monastrell and Moscatel.

Don’t miss the handmade turrón and ice cream that complete this flavorful tour in Alicante.

To discover the local flavors, there’s nothing better than heading to the market first thing in the morning. Our advice is to go around 11 a.m., take a stroll, and explore all the fresh local produce on offer. This market is only open from Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., so it’s the perfect stop to enjoy a lively but authentic local atmosphere.

Here you can try a wide variety of olives prepared in many different ways, as well as local almonds, other nuts, loquats, and dates. It’s also a great place to stop for some cured meats, a homemade vermouth, and a few clóchinas (local mussels).
And if after this little aperitif you’re still hungry, we recommend visiting the restaurants just behind the market. They all serve traditional, high-quality food, where you’ll find different kinds of Russian salad, croquettes, and fresh fish.
